Revolutionary America and the Culper Ring

Finally, the first informational post!

The Culper Ring played a pivotal role during the American Revolution. If not for this ring of spies, Britian might have won the war and much sooner, too. The spy ring was under the command of General George Washington himself. Important people in the ring were Benjamin Tallmadge, the leader of Connecticut dragoons, Abraham Woodhull,  Caleb Brewster, Robert Townsend, and others. The first three were all from the town of Setauket on Long Island.

The ring brought information about British positions and status to General Washington, and also foiled the attempt by General Benedict Arnold and Major John André to put West Point into British hands.

A new show on AMC called Turn depicts the Culper Spy Ring, its formation and what it did. The show depicts methods the ring used for spying.
